2024's Upcoming Horror: Part 2

TTN 8

Happy TERROR THURSDAY! I am very excited to share today’s content with you! Great job pushing through this week of ruthless winter. You’re one day closer to the weekend so keep up the good work. As promised, I have Part 2 of my list of upcoming horror films in 2024. These five films are not ranked or considered less anticipated than Part 1 but landed on this edition because of alphabetical order. I hope you find this list informative and exciting because these five horror films have a lot of scares to offer.

Upcoming Horror Films: Part 2

Nosferatu

Set for yet another Christmas Day release, Robert Eggers aims to revive the foundational silent film, Nosferatu (1922). Bill Skarsgård is reportedly portraying the vampire while also starring as Eric Draven in The Crow remake (mentioned in Part 1). The supporting cast includes Renfield’s (2023) Nicholas Hoult and the seasoned warrior, Willem Dafoe. Eggers’ direction and the experienced cast scream quality in this likely elevated-horror remake of the classic vampire tale.

Salem’s Lot

Speaking of vampires… the new Salem’s Lot is a remake of the 1979 miniseries. Based on Stephen King’s novel (one of my favorite books), the original is considered one of the most influential vampire adaptations of all time. However, it’s overdue for a remake because of its three-hour runtime and dated effects. The new film was made and set to release in 2022 but had its release delayed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The fact that Salem’s Lot has been shelved for two years has reason for concern, but the name carries enough weight to keep me invested. The release date has not been determined.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2 + 3)

Swinging for the fences, The Strangers: Chapter One is a reboot of the original The Strangers (2008). The director of this project, Renny Harlin claims this film is a basic remake except with an ending that sets up sequels. He then added that it is the beginning of a trilogy that was all filmed back to back to back. Reports also claim that the three films, The Strangers: Chapter 1, 2, and 3, will all be released in 2024! The first will hit theaters on May 17 while the other two are still undetermined. If this trilogy is done right, it could instantly vault The Strangers to the forefront of horror.

Terrifier 3

This is possibly my most anticipated horror film of 2024. Damien Leone upped the ante with Terrifier 2 (2022), so I’m anxious as to how far he can take things with Terrifier 3. This project recently dropped a teaser trailer that showcased the recent icon, Art the Clown, wearing a Santa costume. This paired with a gory holiday poster revealed that the film will be Christmas-themed! According to reports, the story is supposed to build on Terrifier 2 by diving deeper into who and what Art the Clown is. I suspect Terrifier 3 to be the most disturbing film of the year, so I can only hope it also delivers in other aspects like story and characters. Be ready on October 25.

Wolf Man

Last but not least, Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man is also set to release on October 25. This project was announced in 2020 as part of Universal’s classic monster remake initiative. However, the film faced a few setbacks and even had Ryan Gosling drop out of the lead role. These issues may deter some skeptics, but not me. Leigh Whannell is one of the most underrated horror directors of the last decade and he proved he could handle a modern Universal monster when he made The Invisible Man (2020). I have faith in this film and am excited to finally get a new werewolf movie in 2024!

Weekend Watch

That concludes TERROR THURSDAY’s list of upcoming horror films in 2024! These 10 films vary in style, so I hope at least one jumped out and caught your eye. I believe 2024 will be a strong year for horror and that it is a perfect time to be a fan of the genre. Thank you so much for joining and go out there and kill it the next two days. If you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, I recommend looking at one of my favorite foreign films…

Na Hong-jin’s The Wailing (2016)
