TTN 13
Happy TERROR THURSDAY everyone! I hope that you’re doing well and that you’re getting geared up for a great weekend. On another note, today’s article will seem strange and sudden, but I must deliver some bad news.
The End
This week will be my final edition of TTN.
For those of you who have participated and reached out to me with praise, thank you! For those of you who just joined this week, I’m sorry to leave you hanging. I’ve put a great deal of thought into it and believe it’s best to bring this project of mine to an end. I’m truly upset about it but there are factors in my decision that I can’t ignore.
Three months back, I started TTN for a few reasons. First, I wanted to reach a large enough platform that I could use sponsored ads to monetize. Second, I wanted to expand my presence in the horror community and share it with others. Third, I wanted to use the opportunity to practice and improve my writing skills before I begin my MBA program in August. The ideal vision of TTN would have combined these three major reasons to create an enjoyable side hustle that provided me with extra income for graduate school. Its success would have put me in a position to have a flexible job that I loved to do.
However, that is not what happened. I simply have not been able to get enough subscribers or activity. Since the beginning, I’ve been measuring growth trends and comparing them to my efforts and things just don’t add up. Countless factors could be responsible for the channel’s lack of growth, but I believe the most significant is that this niche does not exist over email.
The horror community is among the most devout, yet, its traffic exists on other platforms, not email. I knew this going into my project, but email is the only way to create a monetizable newsletter. This handcuffed me in ways because I easily gained traffic and followers on X (Twitter), but I struggled to transfer their attention to the email platform. Within three weeks I gained 500+ followers but gained less than 5 subscribers on TTN. This convinced me that the market does not exist, at least not without paying for subscribers.
Happy Trails
While things did not go as expected, I thoroughly enjoyed writing these newsletters. Having a Bachelor’s in Marketing, it was interesting to put myself in this position and to advertise my project. The whole experience was beneficial, even in its short time. At first, I saw this as a failure, but with some reflection, I only see it as another one of the many neat things I’ve done.
I still plan to review every film I watch on my Letterboxd account (link below) so if you want to keep up with my watches, want recommendations, or just want to talk movies then hit me up on there. Feel free to reach out anytime because I love to pick cinephile’s brains.
Once again, thank you so much for your support and participation. It meant a lot to receive the positive feedback that I did. I appreciate your time and I wish you the best in whatever you do. Now for the last time, HAPPY! TERROR! THURSDAY!
