Introduction and Origin

TTN 1

Hey, killers! Congratulations on surviving to Thursday, only one more day until the weekend!

I am so thrilled you are here and could not be more excited to get this project of mine going!

My name is Colton and I am the creator of Terror Thursday Newsletter. I am a soon-to-be college graduate (two weeks) with bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Marketing. While my degrees are not writing or film-related, I began amateurly rating films on IMDB in 2019 and reviewing them on Letterboxd in 2020. Over the course of my four years on Letterboxd, I have rated nearly 1000 different films and wrote reviews for almost 800 of them.

Ironically, I grew up terrified of the dark and under strict supervision regarding what I watched. Scooby Doo was the closest thing to ‘scary’ I ever encountered but it quickly became my favorite cartoon (and still is). One day in my adolescence, my dad brought home a DVD set of Friday the 13th I-IV. We watched all four in one sitting and it was that night something magical happened; my curiosity for horror sparked.

Friday the 13th lit a fire in my teenage self and seemingly overnight, my room was filled with slasher posters, and my bookshelves were dominated by horror DVDs. I was obsessed with watching every horror series to discover each killer’s style, motive, and weaknesses. This electric period began with Jason, Michael, and Freddy, but inevitability transitioned into the broader regions of horror that I am still exploring with the same enthusiasm.

Since those teenage years, I have spent much of my free time scouring for films to broaden my insatiable knowledge of horror. My early years of college naturally connected me to others with common interests and we quickly made it a hobby to watch and discuss horror together. These friendships are what inspired me to create TTN; because horror is better together.

My goal for this newsletter is to grow and strengthen connections in the horror community. Each week I will share film/book reviews, horror-related news, or some thought-provoking topics. Additionally, at the end of each newsletter, I will provide a Weekend Watch to provide some inspiration for subscribers’ weekend movie plans. I hope the material feeds your excitement for horror and feel free to reach out for questions, comments, or if you just need to talk.

Once again, thank you for joining TTN and I hope you enjoy it! Have a bloody good weekend, and I will see you next Thursday!
